Small Groups
Welcome to our page!
Small groups are a vibrant part of our ministry! The Small Group Ministries Team works with others to coordinate existing small groups, to identify what other groups may be needed, and to help start these groups.
John Wesley began his ministry with small groups and Methodism was born. Small groups have different emphases including fellowship, missions, study, and prayer. If you're looking for a group, check out the ones below.
Want to join or start a new group? Make an appointment with our Director of Program Ministries, Pat Heaton.
Discovery Days
Children's Discovery Days
consist of specific outings/activities that are planned several Tuesdays
throughout the summer to include all children elementary age and under. The
children meet at church in the morning, have a devotional that is usually tied
to the activity for the day, and then proceed on for a day of learning and fun.
This is a great bonding experience for the children of the church. In summer 2008, the activities included: Briarwood Safari (June 18th), Bounce
USA (June 25th), Sprout Studio (July 9th), and M and M Big Splat (July 16th).
The activities vary from year to year, and the children always look
forward to the next summer's program.
Getting Fit Again
Purpose: To
encourage members (and others) to take care of our bodies (God’s Holy Temple)
by getting and staying in shape to serve Christ; to participate in Christian
fellowship; to reach others for Christ.
What we
do: (1) We meet twice weekly for stringent water aerobics classes
plus weights for strength training. (2) We plan to hike to discover God’s
nature. (3) We offer fellowship and prayer for each other and others who
request it. (4) We welcome those who are unchurched and/or unbelievers (of
all ages) into our group to provide a witness for them.
Excerpts
from participants: “I could barely walk, and after making myself move, I
feel so much better and know I need to continue to keep from atrophying. “ (Non
church member quote)
“This class
is such a blessing and helpful to us.” (Church member quote)
“This
class has very nice people.” (Jefferson City Community Center employee)
Class times:
We meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is
encouraged to join us.
Joyful Hearts
Our Senior Adults Ministry
welcomes all adults age 50+ to join us in Christian Fellowship monthly on the 2nd
Thursday at noon for lunch and a program of fun or interest. This year we have
had some great programs such as: music by Bill Caldwell at our Island Theme
event, Dan Noe provided a fun time for Valentine’s Day program, Sonny Melton
and Jim Pethel provided a good St. Patrick’s celebration, ane Emmett Thompson
informed us about the Mission of Hope in Knoxville. Future programs include a
presentation by Clay Patterson and Jim Everett about Scotland and a clown
program for adults by Wayne Bromberg. We travel by tour bus on day, overnight,
and extended trips for our group to enjoy the opportunity to travel and
discover God’s beautiful creation and to have new experiences in a Christian
environment. Average attendance at meetings is 45, and on trips it is 35-50
persons.

Web of Widows
As a part of the Compassionate
Care Group, we are continuing to come together and “weave” our web of
friendships based at first on a common life experience.
In late June, several of
our group gathered for lunch at the home of one of our members. We enjoyed a
great time, good food, and made some plans for the year ahead. Requested things
on our calendar will be going out for brunch this Fall, another visit to the
Tennessee Theater on a FREE Monday, and enjoying our annual Holiday Brunch at
General Morgan Inn in Greenville after church services. “Doing for others” is
also part of our plan. Most recently we have supplied our contact at the
elementary school with items for children in need. This has been an ongoing
project.

Yarns of Love
A few years ago Pam Stepp invited folks who would like to learn to crochet a prayer shawl to attend what was planned as a short term activity for Wonderful Wednesdays. Since that time the small but devoted group, some Methodists, some not, has branched out to knit and crochet hats for our troops, chemo caps and afghans for the UT Hospital Cancer Center, prayer shawls for the priest at Holy Trinity Catholic Church to distribute, baby afghans for our new arrivals, and even a few sweaters for Guideposts’ Knit for Kids Project. Come join us on Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. in the classroom across from Pat’s office. If you don’t know how to knit or crochet, we will teach you. You can start with a scarf for yourself.
